Postural rehabilitation

WHAT IS REHABILITATION?
Rehabilitation is a medical specialty that consists of taking care of people affected by a
disability or physical disability, in order to minimise the impact of this disability on all their
activities. The goal is to improve their quality of life, as well as their autonomy.
When the loss of capacity is momentary, which is often the case, the role of rehabilitation is
also curative; thanks to adapted exercises and care, it makes it possible to regain complete
use of the area of the body that has been infused.
Rehabilitation can also be indicated before and after a surgical operation: this is called pre-
operative and post-operative rehabilitation. Indeed, no intervention is harmless; following
surgery, symptoms such as pain or stiffness must sometimes be expected. The
physiotherapist therefore intervenes after the operation, but also sometimes upstream, so
that you can regain your mobility and all your abilities. preventing serious conditions such as
skin cancer through early diagnosis and treatment.
The indications of rehabilitation are very numerous! In physiotherapy, sessions are generally prescribed:
Following an illness
After a trauma or accident (sprain, dislocation, tendonitis, fracture...)
In case of disability or disability related to a neurological disease (multiplate sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, sequelae of stroke...)
In case of orthopaedic disorders (motor retardation, malformation)
Before or after surgery resulting in pain and/or loss of mobility
In case of congenital disability
In case of chronic pain (low back pain, neck pain, other pain)
In pre-operative and post-operative, rehabilitation also pursues more specific objectives:
• Reduce pain in the operated area
• Gain muscle strength before and after the operation
• Identify and avoid gestures and postures that reactivate pain
• Monitor the evolution of the scar and the general condition of the operated limb
• Prevent and treat venous and lymphatic complications of the operation
In all cases, the role of your physiotherapist is also to inform you, answer your questions,
and advise you; whether or not you have undergone an intervention.
